Finding the right childcare in Monroe
Monroe emerged as a pivotal railroad hub after the Carolina Central Railway reached the city in 1874, transforming it into a thriving cotton exchange that connected the Piedmont's agricultural heartland to regional markets and spurring the growth of textile mills throughout the early 20th century. As Union County's county seat since its incorporation in 1843, Monroe played a significant role in the American civil rights movement during the 1950s and 1960s, when local NAACP leader Robert F. Williams led efforts to integrate the city's public library and swimming pools, challenging Jim Crow segregation with both peaceful demonstrations and organized self-defense. Monroe's 14 childcare centers range from modest neighborhood programs to more structured facilities, serving families across this Mecklenburg County suburb. We scored each DCDEE-licensed childcare center across 11 real dimensions — safety, curriculum, arts & music, infant care, kindergarten readiness and more. Scores drawn from major public review platforms and parent communities — not center marketing.
“I love this daycare. Not only are the prices affordable (which is highly rare in childcare) the care they give is of the quality of a more costly center.”

“Great experience. Staff is friendly and caring. Would highly recommend to friends and family.”
“We couldn't be any happier! Great job..Teacher Ms.Tarlton and Ms.Polk are a wonderful team and we're grateful to have them as our daughter's Teachers!!”
“We love this school! All the teachers are kind and the Director is very involved. Everyone knows my child and he loves every person that works here; some even have special nicknames. The curriculum prepares my child for the next level and I am very confident that he's ready for Kindergarten this Fall.”
“My son has been enrolled in daycare for a couple years and he loves it! It is not one of these new fancy daycares but personally i like that. Its more homely and small so u get to know everyone! He cries somwtimes in the morning when i leave which is normal for him. But he has a great day! Hes comfortable with all the teachers he know the routine and loves his friends. My daughter has been to the afterschool program when they had it before corona and honestly was mad if i picked her up early. She goes to the summer camp and they ALWAYS have something scheduled to entertain the kids and she has a great time. I highly recommend!!!!”
“All of my children graduated from this school. They were well-prepared for their future and have excelled in college and beyond.”
“The positive impact we have seen in the lives of our children from a Bible-based, Christ-centered education has proven immeasurable.”
“Teachers genuinely care about their students, not just academically, but spiritually and personally as well, with a warm, Christ-centered environment focused on helping each child grow in character and faith.”
“Director Debbie Hildreth and her staff have always taken me seriously and treated me with respect. I appreciate the hard work and dedication. It shows in my daughter's academic abilities.”
“Some reviewers reported that the center's director did not follow through on commitments made about their child's care and expressed dissatisfaction with how their concerns were communicated, though prospective families can review the center's licensing and compliance history in the NC DHHS inspection record.”
“As a parent, there is no greater peace of mind than knowing your children are safe, loved, and being poured into each day—and that's exactly what we've found at this incredible childcare center.”
