Welcome spring — spring into fun!
February was a great month at our school! We wrote Valentines to our friends and families, celebrated the Lunar New Year, and explored the rich continent of Africa — its geography, music, and culture. Week 2 brought Valentine’s Day crafts and kindness activities, Week 3 honored Black History Month by discovering inspiring leaders, and Week 4 wrapped up with Animals of Africa through stories and hands-on projects.
As the weather warms and spring approaches, it’s raining BUGS! We’ll be getting outside to explore and soak in all that nature has to offer. We’re also excited to announce that details for our upcoming Summer Camp are coming your way very soon — stay tuned for dates, activities, and how to sign up. We look forward to another amazing summer together!

Enrichment Programs
- Dance builds flexibility, balance, and coordination — and a creative outlet for teamwork and perseverance.
- Funkey Kids brings energy through music and movement, building motor skills, confidence, and self-expression.
- Each program offers 4 classes per week; enrollment is $60 per child, per class.
Spring Learning at Home
Spring is the perfect time to grow, explore, and create together — everyday moments can become powerful learning experiences:
- Grow something. You don’t need a big garden — a small pot works! Plant flowers or herbs, let your child water them daily, measure growth each week, and keep a simple “plant journal” with drawings. They’ll learn how plants grow, responsibility, early math, and new vocabulary.
- Support local art together. Visit an art fair, watch an artist create, talk about colors and feelings in the artwork, then host your child’s own “art show” at home — it builds creativity, community connection, and confidence.
- Take a spring walk. Count the different flowers, look for birds and butterflies, talk about the weather, and collect leaves for a craft — observation skills, curiosity, and descriptive language, all in one stroll.

A month full of celebrations — and love in every classroom.
Happy February, families! From Mardi Gras to Valentine’s Day, Chinese New Year and more, this month is jam-packed with celebrations and learning about beautiful traditions:
- Black History Month — honoring the achievements, contributions, and history of African Americans through age-appropriate stories and activities that promote respect, diversity, and inclusion.
- Valentine’s Day — kindness, friendship, and expressing care for others through simple crafts centered on love and compassion.
- Chinese New Year — exploring the traditions, symbols, and customs of the Lunar New Year and cultural celebrations from around the world.
- Mardi Gras — the colorful, festive traditions of music, masks, and parades.

Valentine’s / Friendship Day — Friday, Feb 13
- Morning holiday party (yes, there will be snacks!) — sign-up sheet coming soon for contributions.
- Goody bags welcome: label with your child’s name only, and please send small toys or favors rather than edible treats.
- Send a labeled friendship basket (or a decorated shoe box) for collecting treats and goodies.
Tips & Tricks: When Bedtime Is a Battle
Sleep begets sleep! A consistent routine makes the transition easier: talk about the plan during a stress-free moment, pick out pajamas and books ahead of time, choose calming activities and music, and limit liquids (with one last potty trip before climbing in). Stick to what you promise — if you say two books, read two books — and consider a cozy “fort” feel with curtains around the bed. Above all, be consistent: after a couple of weeks, bedtime gets easier for everyone.
From Our Kitchen: English Muffin Pizzas
A classroom favorite you can cook together. Wash hands, halve the English muffins, and preheat the oven to 350°. Show your child how to spoon sauce onto one muffin — “I’ll show you how first, then it will be your turn” — then let them sauce and cheese the rest. Bake until melted, cool, and enjoy. While the pizzas bake, put your little one in charge of setting the table; for an extra fine-motor challenge, let them place the cheese with tongs, and use the moment to introduce new toppings like peppers or pineapple.

Happy New Year, Creative Minds family!
A portion of the old Scots song Auld Lang Syne, translated into English, says: “And there’s a hand, my trusty friend, and give us a hand o’ thine…” As we begin this new year, may we do so hand in hand — and may our community grow closer with each passing year, always the first to reach out a helping hand to those around us.
Reflection on 2025: before embarking on the adventures ahead, we pause to celebrate a year filled with growth, discovery, and countless meaningful Montessori moments. Our children blossomed into independent learners, creative thinkers, and compassionate individuals — and the community we built together is what makes our Montessori family truly special.

Montessori Winter Activities: Indoors
- Winter sensory bin — cotton-ball snow, pinecones, small animals, and spoons for sorting and imaginative play.
- Practical life — buttoning coats, folding scarves, sweeping “snow” with a small broom.
- Nature collage — glue leaves and twigs from your walks into winter art.
- Simple winter cooking — hot cocoa, cookies, or fruit salad: measurement, sequencing, kitchen skills.
- Winter books & storytime — stories about snow and animals in the cold.
And Bundle Up for the Outdoors
- Nature walks — collect fallen branches, look for animal tracks, observe winter birds.
- Winter sensory play — touch snow or ice and compare textures with ice cubes.
- Outdoor sorting games — sort rocks, pinecones, and sticks by size, color, or shape.
