Anna Dewdney
Recognized in the Creative Minds Montessori 2026 Teacher’s Choice list.
Anna Dewdney is one of roughly one hundred authors whose work was selected by the Montessori-certified teachers at Creative Minds Montessori for the 2026 Teacher’s Choice list — 120 books chosen across four reading stages, from first lap-reads to first chapter books. The selected book was chosen for how precisely it meets children at a real developmental moment. This recognition cannot be bought: no author or publisher paid to appear on our lists, and we take no commission on any book sale.
About Anna Dewdney
Anna Dewdney (1965–2016) was a teacher, mother, and advocate of reading aloud who wrote and illustrated the Llama Llama books, beginning with Llama Llama Red Pajama in 2005. The series is continued today by her partner Reed Duncan and illustrator JT Morrow through the Anna E. Dewdney Literary Trust.
Before she published, she worked as a waitress, a rural mail carrier, and a teacher of art and history at a boarding school. When she died in 2016 she asked that, in place of a funeral service, people read to a child instead.
