Anthony Browne
Recognized in the Creative Minds Montessori 2026 Teacher’s Choice list.
Anthony Browne is one of roughly one hundred authors whose work was selected by the Montessori-certified teachers at Creative Minds Montessori for the 2026 Teacher’s Choice list — 120 books chosen across four reading stages, from first lap-reads to first chapter books. The selected book was chosen for how precisely it meets children at a real developmental moment. This recognition cannot be bought: no author or publisher paid to appear on our lists, and we take no commission on any book sale.
About Anthony Browne
Anthony Browne was UK Children's Laureate from 2009 to 2011, has won the Kate Greenaway Medal twice, and in 2000 became the first British illustrator to receive the Hans Christian Andersen Medal. He is best known for Gorilla and Voices in the Park, and for the Shape Game, in which one person draws a shape and someone else turns it into a picture.
Before he made children's books, Browne spent three years as a medical artist at Manchester Royal Infirmary painting watercolours of operations - work he says taught him more about drawing than art college did, and taught him how to tell stories in pictures.
