Dr. Seuss
Recognized in the Creative Minds Montessori 2026 Teacher’s Choice list.
Dr. Seuss is one of roughly one hundred authors whose work was selected by the Montessori-certified teachers at Creative Minds Montessori for the 2026 Teacher’s Choice list — 120 books chosen across four reading stages, from first lap-reads to first chapter books. The selected book was chosen for how precisely it meets children at a real developmental moment. This recognition cannot be bought: no author or publisher paid to appear on our lists, and we take no commission on any book sale.

About Dr. Seuss
Theodor Seuss Geisel (1904–1991), who wrote as Dr. Seuss, created The Cat in the Hat after a publisher asked him for a beginning reader built from a controlled word list — he used 236 of the 348 first-grade words he was given. Three of his books were Caldecott runners-up, and in 1984 he received a Pulitzer Prize special citation for his contribution to the education and enjoyment of America's children.
His first children's book, And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street, was rejected many times over — by Geisel's own varying accounts, somewhere between 20 and 43 publishers — and he was walking home to destroy the manuscript when he ran into a former Dartmouth classmate who had it published by Vanguard Press.
