Drew Daywalt
Recognized in the Creative Minds Montessori 2026 Teacher’s Choice list.
Drew Daywalt is one of roughly one hundred authors whose work was selected by the Montessori-certified teachers at Creative Minds Montessori for the 2026 Teacher’s Choice list — 120 books chosen across four reading stages, from first lap-reads to first chapter books. The selected book was chosen for how precisely it meets children at a real developmental moment. This recognition cannot be bought: no author or publisher paid to appear on our lists, and we take no commission on any book sale.

About Drew Daywalt
Drew Daywalt took a BFA in creative writing from Emerson College in 1992 and wrote for film and television for over a decade — including animated series for Disney and Universal — before The Day the Crayons Quit, which spent 258 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list and held the number-one picture-book spot for over a year.
He has written that the book began at his desk in Los Angeles in the autumn of 2003, when he noticed an old box of his crayons, decided they had a story to tell, and poured them out to let each one speak for itself.
