Eric Hill
Recognized in the Creative Minds Montessori 2026 Teacher’s Choice list.
Eric Hill is one of roughly one hundred authors whose work was selected by the Montessori-certified teachers at Creative Minds Montessori for the 2026 Teacher’s Choice list — 120 books chosen across four reading stages, from first lap-reads to first chapter books. The selected book was chosen for how precisely it meets children at a real developmental moment. This recognition cannot be bought: no author or publisher paid to appear on our lists, and we take no commission on any book sale.
About Eric Hill
Eric Hill (1927–2014) was born in London and worked as a cartoonist and then a freelance art director, graphic designer and illustrator before creating Spot. Where's Spot? is, in his publisher's words, the original lift-the-flap book.
In 1978 Hill made up a story about a small puppy at bedtime for his son Christopher, building it around a flap design after noticing how fascinated Christopher was by lifting paper flaps; the success of Where's Spot? in 1980 convinced him to become a full-time author.
