Mary Pope Osborne
Recognized in the Creative Minds Montessori 2026 Teacher’s Choice list.
Mary Pope Osborne is one of roughly one hundred authors whose work was selected by the Montessori-certified teachers at Creative Minds Montessori for the 2026 Teacher’s Choice list — 120 books chosen across four reading stages, from first lap-reads to first chapter books. The selected book was chosen for how precisely it meets children at a real developmental moment. This recognition cannot be bought: no author or publisher paid to appear on our lists, and we take no commission on any book sale.
About Mary Pope Osborne
Mary Pope Osborne has written the Magic Tree House books since 1992 — her publisher calls it the number-one bestselling chapter book series of all time, with sales past 143 million copies worldwide — and her Gift of Books Program has placed over 1.2 million books with children in Title 1 schools.
She grew up in a military family, living in Oklahoma, Austria, Florida and four army posts in Virginia and North Carolina before she was fifteen; after college she crossed sixteen Asian countries in a caravan of rickety vans.
