Molly Bang
Recognized in the Creative Minds Montessori 2026 Teacher’s Choice list.
Molly Bang is one of roughly one hundred authors whose work was selected by the Montessori-certified teachers at Creative Minds Montessori for the 2026 Teacher’s Choice list — 120 books chosen across four reading stages, from first lap-reads to first chapter books. The selected book was chosen for how precisely it meets children at a real developmental moment. This recognition cannot be bought: no author or publisher paid to appear on our lists, and we take no commission on any book sale.
About Molly Bang
Molly Bang is an author and illustrator whose books The Grey Lady and the Strawberry Snatcher, Ten, Nine, Eight and When Sophie Gets Angry—Really, Really Angry were each named Caldecott Honor books. She also wrote Picture This, her only book for adults, which explains the structural principles artists use to make pictures emotionally powerful.
She taught English in Kyoto and learned Japanese, then worked as an interpreter for the Asahi newspaper; a spell as a reporter at the Baltimore Sun, she says, taught her how unsuited she was to reporting.
