The Everything Book
A teacher’s look at why this book belongs in the Page Grabbers stage.

Why it fits Page Grabbers (for young toddlers who treat books as things to do)
Colors, shapes, food, faces, and first rhymes in one chunky volume. It is a whole first library between two covers. Ideal for the toddler who wants 'everything' - which is all of them.
What makes it special
Fleming really did put everything in: colors, counting, body parts, weather, and a pizza. Her pulp-painting technique gives every page the fuzzy warmth of felt, softening an encyclopedia into a comfort object. For the toddler who wants all of it right now, here is all of it, bound.
From the publisher
A collection of simple works which introduce colors, shapes, numbers, animals, food, and nursery…
About Denise Fleming
Denise Fleming makes her pictures by pouring colored cotton pulp through hand-cut stencils, so the image and the handmade paper are one and the same. She won a 1994 Caldecott Honor for In the Small, Small Pond.
She calls papermaking physical, messy work - toting buckets of water and hand-mixing huge vats of color - and says she has not picked up a brush or a colored pencil since she discovered it. She lives and works in Toledo, Ohio.
