About A.A. Milne
A.A. Milne (1882–1956) was a Punch contributor and later assistant editor, and an established playwright, before the four books he wrote in the 1920s — When We Were Very Young, Winnie-the-Pooh, Now We Are Six, and The House at Pooh Corner — made him a children's author for good.
The real Winnie was a Canadian black bear at the London Zoo, named after the city of Winnipeg; Christopher Robin Milne renamed his own teddy after her. The Hundred Acre Wood came from the Five Hundred Acre Wood in Ashdown Forest, on whose northern edge the family's Cotchford Farm stood.
